Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japanese Markets.

The nail-biting extended clash that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers defeat the Blue Jays by one run averaged a total 51 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japanese markets. MLB reported this is the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Viewership Breakdown

The Saturday epic game secured over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the previous week.

It additionally stands as the most-watched Fall Classic matchup since the 2017 Game 7 involving the Los Angeles Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07 million. This marks a 16% increase over the previous Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, Game 5 was 8th, and Game 3 finished in 13th place.

International Viewership Numbers

In the Canadian market, the climactic game averaged over 11 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest began at 9 PM in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This followed last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic MVP Yoshinobu Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million viewers, making it the most-watched World Series matchup on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Averages and Patterns

The full seven-game World Series averaged 15.71M audience members on the Fox network, a two percent increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This marks the initial instance after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive years.

Counting the opening game telecast on the Univision network, the complete US viewership reached 16.1 million. The overall Fall Classic average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.

The full MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an 8% rise compared to last year and Fox’s strongest playoff performance since 2017.

Major League Baseball stated that the Fall Classic was televised in over 200 nations and regions by 44 media partners in sixteen different tongues.
